Title:
Web 2.0 for Business and IT
Stream:
Web2.0 SIG (2)
Speakers:
Rick Robinson
Abstract:
Web 2.0 for Business and IT: New Media and Web Oriented Architectures\n\nIn 2008 Web 2.0 finally moved beyond the world of start-ups and teenagers as Enterprrise organisations started to explore the possibilities it provided to them in two complimentary areas: the use of "New Media" as a communication platform and the use of Web-Oriented Architectures as a faster and more flexible platform for applications. In this session we will explore both areas with examples of the technologies and projects involved. From a business perspective, we see how new media such as gadgets and social applications can be used to reach customers and employees and create new interactions. From a technical perspective, we will show how products and technologies such as AJAX, OSGI, Mashups, REST services, WebSphere and CICS deliver such applications and integrate them with Enterprise applications and data. Finally, we will suggest some concrete first steps that can be taken to explore the different aspects of Web 2.0 - and reasons for choosing which steps to take first.
